DIY Flip Flop Wreath Summer Front Door Decoration FrontI have gotten so much love for my DIY Flip Flop Summer Wreath Front Door Decoration. However, there is nothing worse than taking time to craft something only to have it fall apart. That is what ended up happening to my Flip Flop Wreath several weeks after making it so I wanted to give you an update on how to make it so it won’t fall apart.

In the original tutorial I suggested you take an embroidery hoop and use it as the circle that you attach your flip flops to. I found that because the area of the embroidery hoop where the flip flops were glued to was so small (less than a quarter inch) and the weight of the flip flops was a bit heavy, after awhile the hot glue ended up giving away and the flip flops tumbled to the ground.

I remade my flip flop wreath last week, it took me about 15 minutes to remake. I thought I would give you an updated DIY. Really the only difference is that I cut a wreath shape out of cardboard and glued the flip flops to that instead of the embroidery hoop. The flip flops seem to hold better to the cardboard. I think this is because the glue holds better to cardboard than to wood and also because there is more surface area using a cardboard hoop instead of an embroider hoop.

Below is a picture of the back of my wreath so you can see what I mean. Excuse my photos, it’s a gloomy day here today in Vancouver.

What You Need:

  • 4 pairs of brightly colored flip flops (I got these from Michael’s for 2 for $5.00)
  • A ring cut out of a piece of cardboard (I used a cardboard box) The outer part of my circle measures approximately 12 inches in diameter and the inner circle approximately 10 inches in diameter
  • Spray paint or acrylic paint (if using acrylic paint you will also need a paint brush)
  • Any embellishments you may want to add to your flip flops
  • A glue gun
  • A piece of ribbon to hang your wreath with

Directions:

  • Paint your cardboard in a fun summer color (I used robin’s egg blue) allow to dry.
  • Tie a loop of ribbon through the center of your ring to hang your wreath with.
  • Take your flip flops and space them around your cardboard wreath.
  • Going one flip flop at a time, apply hot glue to the cardboard and then press the flip flop against the glue firmly. Continue around your wreath.
  • Add any embellishments that you would like to your flip flops. We added silk Gerbera Daisies.
  • Hang on your front door.
  • Enjoy the smiles of your guests and those who pass by and notice your colorful summer wreath.

Happy Summer!
