We moved into our house in June, 1 week before Turtle made his way into the world. The 7 months that have followed have gone by in a blur. Things that we said “We have to change this immediately!” have gone unchanged in our new home. The paint colors on the wall are not very “us”, bathrooms need to be redone, the kitchen needs to be remodeled and the children’s rooms… well, I have big dreams for them.

Turtle has been sleeping in our room, but I have dreams of a robot themed bedroom for him. Or maybe jungle, or forest creatures, or cars and trucks and things that go. Honestly ideas for his room change on a daily basis for me.

But Bean’s room. That has remained a constant in my mind. I want to do an underwater mermaid themed room for her. It couldn’t be a Little Mermaid room though, it had to be a very un-Disney like mermaid room. I had the idea as soon as we decided to move into our new house. Much to my chagrin, when we moved in Bella professed that she loved the bubble gum pink walls and the pink camouflage window covering that the previous owners left behind.

I kept trying to coax Bella over to the “mermaid side” but she wasn’t going for it…until… I showed her Sarah Jane’s Out To Sea fabric collection from Michael Miller. She was just as enchanted with Sarah Jane’s mermaids and narwhals as I was so I quickly bought yardage of these four fabrics.

Here are a few images that I am using as inspiration for her room. I pin them all to the Sew Creative Pinterest Board so check out more ideas there.
